OBAMA

Almost two thousand and ten years ago
At the behest of Herod’s messianic aspirations
A cry was heard in Bethlehem and Ramah
Now echoing in the yuletide cries of mothers
In Yemen, Pakistan, Iraq, and Afghanistan
Children slain by the bombs of Obama
And we remember; Nagasaki and Hiroshima
Speak of a bleak nuclear future
While the season brings new hope
A savior – Nobel acclamations
Droning death on the feast of the innocents
And alas, his King-ly appeal proves
But a Sambo dance for the great Uncle Sam
Manifest destiny in black-face

TIME IS RUNNING OUT

I was born into a world of mystery
One where everything was laid out for me
Prescribed a path following a certain way to be
In a consummate, commercial reality
The aftermath of freedom, democracy
And white man’s Christianity

So pay attention and choose wisely
Because in the balance hangs your own destiny
Unfortunately y’all the bullshit didn’t end with Gee Dubya
Cause there’s a new world order in a post-racial era
As the truth of just where we stand becomes clearer
We’ve got his Nobel holiness, Barack Obama the minstrel
Translation: neo-colonial distortions on neo-nuclear proportions
Check it, using Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King
To justify the Wolfowitz doctrine all over again
While in debt we war on jobs, healthcare, and a greener economy
Still we maintain a world conquest military budget called defense
So drones deliver death to innocent babies in Yemen
And our tax dollars fund new heights of Apartheid in Palestine
And AFRICOM looms in poverty stricken Kenyans
And a continent already facing war floods and famine
Yet forgetfully we behave as though our supply of oil is unlimited
While Halliburton and AIG still reap the lion’s share of dividends
So give heed to the prophecies of these humble servants and scribes
We’re loving a lie not realizing in Adam all die
Like Dorothy Day, Peter Maurin, all those Marleys and Lauryn said
We be loving a lie not realizing in Adam all die

And though Babylon thy eye be steadily trained upon me
I know that our Creator breathes life and it’s in me
Born to a mother called Earth and a father called Time
Knowing we must honor them if we are to survive in the land
But our ecological footprint is the indelible mark on our soul
The death toll and captivity of those on our insatiable payroll
Because morality is absent when there’s big money to be made
The truth the first casualty when corporate plutocracy reigns
For we know that in the tension between the real me and the perceived we
Dwells the defense of the mirrors, smoke and lies used to deceive thee
Contentious pretense subverting conscience and comprehension
It’s the all-polluting symptom of this filthy rotten shit-stem
And though repeatedly our Mother Earth succinctly impends
That she can no longer withstand our rapacious connivance
Still we’re tempting Time bringing her steadily forward
Unapologetically onward toward eco-nuclear catastrophe
For those who live by the sword shall die by the sword
And I see a composite picture of the world around me just in Haiti
Cause Blacks is still up in the prison

and everywhere is war, everywhere is war,
But we are confident in Jah victory
In good over evil

Said we are born into a world of mystery
One where, everything is laid out for
A narrower path or an iconic way to be
A consumptive entity in a consummate, commercial reality
The lyrical fantasy of a capitalized, destructive identity
Do the math, this is modern day slavery
The aftermath of free market liberty
And it spells death to your mind, your soul,
Your body and your history
To the Earth and all that liveth there
Now creativity is the last vestige of sanity
Love the reason and the rhyme in each defining paradigm
Remember, she said it’s the only solution
Everything else is just passing Time
But he’s running out
